About:

The BMI is used to classify people’s disease risk, and different weight catagories: underweight, normal weight, overweight, and three classifications of obesity; grade I, II, and III. It has been shown to correlate with body fat, but since muscle mass is a very healthy, some people with a lot of muscle and a high BMI may be very healthy. Another factor to consider is that some people that are considered normal weight may be at increased risk for developing some life threatening diseases if their waist circumference is too large compared to thier hips. The waist to hip ratio is therefore a better test for assessing health risk.
